1677 Integrating Venepuncture Training Within the Curriculum for Oral and Maxillofacial Dental Core Trainees Within A Hospital in South Wales, UK

Abstract Aim The aim of this quality improvement project was to provide a solution improve the confidence and skill Oral Maxillofacial Dental Core Trainees (DCTs) in venepuncture by attending phlebotomy training sessions. DCTs within hospital where undertaken are dentally qualified often not taught principles during their undergraduate degree. Furthermore, they rarely gain hands-on experience confidently apply these skills. Method Phlebotomy sessions were held, each an hour half long completed first 4 weeks starting job. A survey prior training. consisted short introduction different techniques, observing phlebotomist taking blood, then performing on live patients clinic who required blood investigations. Vacutainer eclipse single needle used with single-use holder. Following training, second survey. Results mean increased from 2.7 8.2 out 10 following 100% rated workshop 10, being excellent. had minimal disruption running maxillofacial clinics. Conclusions This will have overall benefit firstly also Health Board. success programme lead its permanent implementation curriculum for or intake new DCTs.
